Local Government 2030 – Lessons for the Future: A Convening of Practitioners took place on November 4-5, 2022 on the campus of the University of Nebraska, Omaha. The convening brought together 51 practitioners under the age of 40 from cities, counties and regional councils around the United States.

The delegates were divided into seven groups by local government disciplines:

-
General Administration (Managers, Attorneys, and Clerks)
-
Finance or Budgeting
-
Public Works (including Water, Wastewater, and Transportation)
-
Administrative Services (including Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, Equity, and Sustainability)
-
Community Services (including Parks, Recreation, Library, and Arts)
-

The delegates groups prepared papers on how the National Academy of Public Administration Grand Challenges impacted their disciplines. The papers were presented at the beginning of the convening. The delegates discussed common themes in each of the papers and were then re-organized into three cities to discuss these issues further. Each of the three cities then presented their findings to the larger group and three initiatives were then chosen to work on during 2023 implementing solutions.
